Put into .htaccess the following to your liking.

(Shows all files in the directories)
Options -Indexes
(Hides all files in the directories without a index file and shows a 404 page)
IndexIgnore *.gif *.jpg
(Shows up all the files except .gif and .jpg files)

ErrorDocument 403 /errors/forbid.html
