FIRST STEPS
- Password: You must set a Google-hosted password before you can connect to a mobile device or third-party email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird.
- Your eID password is separate from a Google-hosted password and the two should NOT be the same.
- To set/reset your Google-hosted password, follow the “Change your Google Password” link at https://mail.google.com/ and follow the instructions.
- IMAP: Be sure to enable IMAP in your Google Apps account.
- Username: The format of your Gmail user name will be [email protected] rather than [email protected].
- When setting up POP or IMAP access to your Google Apps mail account, make sure to enter your full email address ([email protected]) whenever you’re asked for your username or address.
OUTLOOK 2010 CONFIGURATION STEPS
To set up your Outlook 2010 client to work with Gmail:
- Open Outlook.
- Click the File tab and click + Add Account.
- Add New Account:

- Enter your display name, email address (including ‘[email protected]’), and password.
- Select the ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’ checkbox.
- Click Next.

- Select Internet E-mail. Click Next.
- Internet Email Settings:

- In the User Information section, enter your name and full email address (including ‘[email protected]’)
- In the Account Type dropdown menu, select IMAP; enter the incoming and outgoing server names shown below.
- In the ‘User Name’ field, give your full Gmail address, including ‘[email protected]’

- Click the More Settings… button, then the Advanced tab.

- Set Incoming server (IMAP): to 993, and use SSL encryption.
- Set Outgoing server (SMTP): to 465 or 587, and use SSL encryption.

- Click the Outgoing Server tab.

- Make sure that ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ is selected.
- The radio button ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’ should also be selected.

- Click OK, Next, Finish, Close, OK.
